From scaling the heights of the mobile climbing wall to trying out a range of exciting new sports, the free Family Fun Day at Yeovil Recreation Centre will have something for everyone on Saturday 16 August.
The day is the first of its kind at the Recreation Centre and Jake Hannis, Senior Sport and Healthy Lifestyles Officer at South Somerset District Council explains more about the idea behind the event. “We have had our busiest summer ever at the Rec and we want to give even more people the opportunity to see what an impressive range of facilities we have to offer.
“All activities on the day are free and we have qualified coaches on hand to help everyone try sports including hockey, athletics, tennis, netball, volleyball and golf. We are also offering the opportunity to scale the mobile climbing wall, bounce on the inflatables and even try out Laser Tag. It promises to be a great free day out for the family.”
The Family Fun Day runs from 10am to 4pm and everything is open to allow families to
to test their skills on the Athletics Arena, golf courses and the artificial grass pitch. For those feeling less active ‘PlayArt’ will also be on site to make wild and wonderful creations.
Councillor Sylvia Seal, Health and Well Being Portfolio Holder at South Somerset District Council said, “Yeovil Recreation Centre has been positively bustling this year and in June alone we had approximately 10,000 people using the Athletics Arena. We were also proud to play a small part in the recent Commonwealth Games with bronze medallist Jo Pavey training at the Athletics Arena in the build up to her incredible performance.
“I hope that families across South Somerset and beyond take the opportunity to join in the Family Fun Day and have an active and enjoyable free day out.”
