The Bishop’s Palace in Wells is to host a new art exhibition by artist Fiona McIntyre. The exhibition is entitled “The Tree Within” and will showcase a range of Fiona’s landscapes and treescapes reflecting the artist’s intimate connection with nature.
“Her works have the earthy gravitas of the (early) Van Gogh” Peter Davies – writer and art critic.
Originally born in Kenya, Fiona has been painting and drawing professionally for the last 28 years since leaving the Edinburgh College of Art. Whilst at Edinburgh, Fiona studied under the tutelage of John Houston and Elizabeth Blackadder, learning the Scottish style of painting – focusing less on the analytical and more on the painterly and intuitive. Fiona feels that this Scottish intuitiveness along with Scandinavian introspection gleaned from several years of living through the Scandinavian long dark winter days has made her work what it is today.
Fiona says “William Turner summed it up for me when he said that ‘painting is not about what you see but how you see it.”
Jonathan Sawyer, Visitor Experience Manager says “We’re delighted to be hosting an exhibition of Fiona’s work. Fiona’s depiction of trees and the natural landscape perfectly compliment the beauty and serenity of the Palace & Gardens”
The exhibition will be held in the Conference Room of the Palace and will be included in standard admission to the Palace & Gardens.
