South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) has produced a second “Yeovil in Living Memory” Calendar with the help of the active volunteers at CHAC. Volunteers have drawn on the considerable collection of photos held at the Centre and put together a set of fascinating photos showing Yeovil as it was in the 1960s. District Council get busy as bees to help save black bees
A large colony of black bees that had made their hive near the top of a tree at Penn Hill in Yeovil had to be saved by staff at South Somerset District Council after a large limb of the tree had fallen off and disturbed the hive. A member of the public reported to the Somerset Beekeepers’ Association that a large nest of what they thought to be ordinary bees had been exposed after they noticed the limb of an oak tree had fallen off. New Facility is Pitch Perfect for South Somerset
Balls will be fizzing along the new surface when the highly anticipated Artificial Grass Pitch at Yeovil Recreation Centre officially opens on Saturday 21 September. Everyone is invited to celebrate the occasion and there will be the opportunity to take part in ‘taster sessions’ including Rush Hockey and Junior Hockey before the ribbon is cut at 10.30am. The opening is the culmination of the £817,000 project which has been led by South Somerset District Council. A successful funding application to England Hockey Board alongside developer funding from Barratt Homes and capital funding from SSDC have all made the project possible. Full Story: Read More
