Staff at the Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) in Yeovil are thrilled to have been gifted a rare 1835 medallion. The Yeovil Guardian Friendly Society medallion, 1835, was amongst a donation of important items concerning the history of Yeovil. The donation included medallions awarded to the Mayor of Yeovil to commemorate Royal events including the wedding and later the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary and their silver jubilee medals. It’s not just the public who will be taking on the fundraising challenge. Daring Davina McCall went the extra mile in the BT Sport Relief Challenge: Davina – Beyond Breaking Point. Davina travelled across the UK, all under her own steam – and all in the name of Sport Relief. South Somerset pupils’ posters win food waste challenge
Primary pupils Billy Green and Harriett Elliott have proved their powers of persuasion by being picked as overall winner and a runner-up respectively in a contest to help Somerset families recycle food waste into clean green power. Billy and Harriett, both aged 9 from Preston Primary School in Yeovil, were among thousands of children from all over the county who were invited to design posters promoting recycling through Somerset’s new Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility and its billions of “burping bacteria”.
