With the whole nation gripped by cycling fever, hundreds of keen South Somerset residents hopped onto the saddle and enjoyed Yeovil’s first Bike Fest on Wednesday 12 August. The event – which was organised by South Somerset District Council with help from Knightstone Housing – took place at Wyndham Park, Yeovil and featured a wide variety of free activities including a pump track challenge, guided bike rides, cycle maintenance workshops and bike marking and security advice. A Level Joy for Chilton Cantelo School
This year’s students carried on the School’s tradition of achieving strong results with a 93% overall pass rate. 29% of all grades were A*/A, outperforming the national rate of 25.9%, and 36% of grades were A* to B. The school gained an increase of over 17% in the A*- B grades range from last year. Particular congratulations go to top-scoring Louis Mustin for achieving an A* in Further Maths and an A in Maths, Physics and Philosophy. Full story: Read more
Police & Crime Commissioner meets Zero Project Partnership
On a recent community visit to Yeovil, Sue Mountstevens, Police & Crime Commissioner for Avon & Somerset, met members of the multi-agency partnership group behind South Somerset’s Zero Project. Zero’s key aims are to reduce alcohol related anti-social behaviour and binge drinking throughout South Somerset by providing night-time events where young people aged 13 to 17 can meet in a safe place, socialise and experience the atmosphere of a nightclub.
