Wells Tennis Club is getting ready to host its annual open day on Saturday 22nd April. All five courts and two mini courts will be packed with free tennis-related activities from 9.30am until 2.00pm. As well as a chance to try tennis with a coach there will be crafts for children, hook the ball competitions, refreshments and discounted memberships on offer. Young tennis players were dreaming of Wimbledon Centre Court when they visited Martock Tennis Club for the South Somerset Schools’ Mini Red Tennis Red Final on Thursday 25 June. The competition was the culmination of a long journey to get to the final with hundreds of young people from South Somerset taking part in ‘cluster’ competitions over the last two months. With tennis fever set to grip the nation during the summer, tennis clubs across South Somerset and Yeovil Recreation Centre are opening their doors over three weekends and offering free tennis taster sessions. Free tennis will be available on 16th/17th May, 13th/14th June and 1st/2nd August. The initiative by the Lawn Tennis Association is part of the Great British Tennis Weekend, which will see over 1,500 park sites and tennis clubs across the country open up for free.
