WELL-KNOWN textile artist Angela Knapp from Castle Cary will be exhibiting at a charity event in aid of the National Kidney Federation early next month (December, 2015). Angela, who specialises in creating unique images of birds, will be at the award-winning Clavelshay Barn Restaurant for its Land, Sea and Sky Exhibition on Monday, December 7. She explained: “I’m delighted to have been invited to take part in this event. New Dimensions: Contemporary Art Inspired by Hidden Collections
Hidden objects from the museum stores are being vividly re-imagined in film, photography, sculpture, textiles and poetry for an exhibition at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton. ‘New Dimensions’ opens on Saturday 16 January 2016 and will feature work created by a group of professional artists who have been granted exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the museum’s extensive stores. Those stores are at the Somerset Heritage Centre, on the edge of Taunton, where the county’s vast collection of archives, historic books and museum objects are preserved. Full story: Read more
Museum of Somerset Collections Inspire South West Artists
The Museum of Somerset’s outstanding collections have been providing South West artists with the inspiration behind two upcoming exhibitions in Taunton. Opening on Saturday 10 October, The South West Textile Group’s exhibition is titled ‘Imprints’, with 35 members showing work across a range of techniques including stitching, quilting, felting, weaving, printing, dyeing and mixed media. Some of the museum’s stand-out objects provided inspiration, including the Roman Low Ham mosaic, which depicts a tragic love story, and the Frome Hoard, the second largest collection of Roman coins ever discovered in Britain.
