Young cyclists were hurtling round corners with huge smiles on their faces when a new ‘Pump Track’ officially opened in Yeovil on Wednesday 30 September. The project, which has been led by South Somerset District Council, followed consultation during the summer which highlighted a lot of enthusiasm for local cycling facilities. Tennis has a smashing future in South Somerset
Young tennis players were dreaming of Wimbledon Centre Court when they visited Martock Tennis Club for the South Somerset Schools’ Mini Red Tennis Red Final on Thursday 25 June. The competition was the culmination of a long journey to get to the final with hundreds of young people from South Somerset taking part in ‘cluster’ competitions over the last two months. Grant from South Somerset District Council helps Curry Mallet with Magna Carta celebrations
A grant from South Somerset District Council has helped Curry Mallet commission new village signs to mark the community’s connection with the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta. This year, Curry Mallet is starring alongside the likes of the cities of London and Leicester in a select group of 25 baronetcies celebrating and commemorating the role of their baron (William Mallet) in the signing of Magna Carta by King John in 1215. The grant funding and advice has been given as part of an SSDC initiative to support the local economy and to encourage visitors to enjoy the South Somerset area. Full story: Read more
