This week sees the launch of the new P2i (Pathway to Independence) support service for young people across Somerset. P2i is an innovative partnership project between Somerset County Council, the five District Councils (Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Mendip, Taunton Deane and West Somerset) and a number of housing providers. The P2i service offers support for homeless and vulnerable young people aged 16 to 24. Birchfield School pupils and South Somerset District Council Countryside Rangers join forces to protect Yeovil Country Park
After a school visit to Yeovil Country Park to visit the woodland as part of a special geography study week, class 4 pupils at Birchfield Primary School were disappointed to encounter large amounts of dog poo, spoiling their visit to the Country Park and limiting the environmental studies that they could carry out. The student and teachers who visited the park felt so strongly about the problem that four students put pen to paper and wrote to Councillor Tony Lock asking for more bins and posters in the Country Park advising dog owners to clear up after their pets. South Somerset Market Towns Guide App gets launched
The South Somerset Market Towns Guide App has just been published in Android and Apple formats, and can be downloaded for free from www.townguideapps.com and itunes. The project has been developed by the South Somerset Market Towns Investment Group, whose members wanted to create a guide for both locals and visitors that could be accessed on the move via a smartphone or tablet.
