Staff at South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) have been left wanting to know more information about a recent donation, after it included photographs of a First World War survivor who lived in Yeovil. CHAC received a large donation of an archive concerning Betty Webb who was active in Yeovil Baptist Church. She was born in Andover and the family moved to Yeovil when she was a child. Comedy hits South Somerset with Hamdon Ha! Ha!
SSDC has provided £500 grant-aid to help bring on a new comedy festival for the Ham Hill area. Hamdon Ha! Ha! is taking place in Norton-sub-Hamdon which has already hosted a series of successful stand-up comedy sessions over the past year. The concept of a comedy festival extending over several days is an innovation for South Somerset that builds on the popularity of the one-off events held so far. A local food show – The Only Way is Local – is to be held at Haynes International Motor Museum on 17 September 2014. The event will run from 10.30am – 1.30pm. With just days to go and 40 stall holders booked, the event is gearing up to showcase Somerset’s high quality food and drink producers. Presented by South Somerset District Council with the backing of European funding (Interreg 2 Seas Fish & Chips project), the food show is promoting local food and drink producers to a wider consumer market, helping them to make business connections and increase their sales and market reach.
