South Somerset Market Town Guide App celebrates 1000 downloads

MTIG PhotoThe Market Towns Investment Group are celebrating the success of their Town Guide App, after achieving over 1000 downloads. The App connects nine beautiful towns in one easy to use phone application, with features including; special offers, interactive town trails and shop listings. The South Somerset Market Towns App was released back in July 2013 as a work in progress. Since April 2014, nine dedicated volunteers in each of the market towns have been developing and promoting the App, to further enhance user experience. Full story: Read more

Remembering display sets up shop in Yeovil Town Centre

Q_081808A remembering display on the First World War has been set up by South Somerset District Council’s Heritage Team in the old Whittard’s shop next to Costa Coffee in the Quedam Shopping Centre, which helps explain how the war began. The display, designed by the Imperial War Museum, will be in the shop from today (Thursday 23 October) until Wednesday 12 November. The display includes an explanation of how the war began, the political map of Europe in 1914 and information and images of life at home and on the front line. Full story: Read more

Grants still available to reduce risk of flooding

SSDCHome owners and businesses in South Somerset directly affected by flooding last winter are being reminded they can still apply for a grant of up to £5,000 to help reduce the risk of flooding of their properties in the future. The Government-funded Repair and Renew Grant scheme can provide grants for additional flood resilience or resistance measures for homes and businesses that have been hit by the floods, over and above repairs that would normally be covered by insurance.
