Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne residents set to benefit from £334,000 activity boost

ilminstergroupInactive people in and around three South Somerset communities are set to benefit from a successful lottery funding bid led by South Somerset District Council. The ‘Click into Activity’ project is one of only 16 projects nationally to receive investment from Sport England’s Get Healthy, Get Active fund which aims to get inactive people moving. The successful bid was the result of a partnership between Somerset Health and Wellbeing Board, University of the West of England in Bristol, Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP), South Somerset District Council and the CLICK GP Federation which covers the area of Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne. The great plant bulb giveaway is coming – this year with yarn bombing event too!

2Thousands of bulbs from Yeovil’s award-winning floral display will be given away for free on Tuesday 2 June. South Somerset District Council, which creates and maintains the displays on behalf of Yeovil Town Council, is inviting people to the giveaway at St John’s Churchyard at 10am. Tulips will be packed up in bags ready for residents to take away. This year, as part of the 2015 Yeovil in Bloom initiative, St John’s Churchyard will also be the venue for a form of street art called yarn bombing. Friends of The Heart of Wessex Line to sow wild seeds at lines stations

Wild Seed Planting 1 - 30 04 15Friends of The Heart of Wessex Railway Line spent Thursday (30 April) afternoon learning how to sow wild seeds in an attempt to help tidy up the look of the lines railway stations. Volunteers from the various stations along the Wessex railway line assembled at Yeovil Pen Mill Station with Catherine Phillips, Rail Partnership Officer, to listen to a presentation by Steve Fox, South Somerset District Council’s (SSDC) Principal Horticultural Officer. The presentation taught the volunteers how to sow wild flower seeds so that they space correctly and also how to prepare the ground. Full story: Read more
