On a recent community visit to Yeovil, Sue Mountstevens, Police & Crime Commissioner for Avon & Somerset, met members of the multi-agency partnership group behind South Somerset’s Zero Project. Zero’s key aims are to reduce alcohol related anti-social behaviour and binge drinking throughout South Somerset by providing night-time events where young people aged 13 to 17 can meet in a safe place, socialise and experience the atmosphere of a nightclub. Collection of Yeovil gloves donated to Community Heritage Access Centre
A collection of glove samples made at Yeovil gloving company Clothier Giles and part of South Somerset’s industrial heritage have been donated to the District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre. The twelve pairs of gloves, made of different materials and in various designs, were used by salesmen to show the quality and style of Clothier Giles products, to retailers across the country. Flight & Float at Ninesprings – Yeovil Country Park
Free, fun activities for all the family are on offer at Ninesprings later this month (Friday 21 August), on the themes of flight and float. Adventurous people will be able to try the inflatable obstacle course and the more arty can opt for face painting and pond dipping or creation of a mini raft, kite or flag. Keep to the flight” theme and you can try your hand at flying a model helicopter or hold an amazing Eagle Owl or young Tawny Owl. Or weave willow into a dragonfly and watch a military fly past.
