Winning the supreme championship at the Dairy Show is the pinnacle of competition – but the pairs and heifer championships are all about future profitability. Often edged out of the spotlight by the supreme championship, the interbreed pairs and heifer champions give a much better insight into the overall quality of the herd, says judge James Warren. Free Support Day for Shepton Businesses
A free drop in event offering support and advice for small businesses is being held in Shepton Mallet next month. The Shepton Mallet Small Business Support Drop-in Day, taking place on Thursday 9 July, is a completely free support and information day for small businesses, organised as by Shepton Chamber as part of the Enterprise Mendip programme. Local family scoop sixth Interbreed Pig Championship at Royal Bath & West Show
Father and daughter Julian and Alice Newth scooped their sixth Interbreed Pig Championship at the Royal Bath & West Show on Thursday (28 May). The local family from Prestleigh, Somerset, claimed the title with their three year-old British Saddleback boar Prestcombe Golden Arrow 15. Sired by Prestcombe Golden Arrow 6, who won at the Devon Country Show in May and at the Bath & West Show in 2011, he has winning in his genes.
