Communities throughout Mendip are to benefit from a slice of £200,000 which has been made available by the district council to fund local community projects. Applications to the council’s Local Legacy Fund are for projects costing over £5,000 and can come from a range of groups – community and voluntary organisations, parish and town councils, village halls, social interest groups and community interest businesses. A local start-up business has thanked Mendip District Council’s Environment Health team for their support and assistance, which has helped them get to where they are today. After moving to Somerset, Ian and Sarah Davies of Wookey Farm, Wookey, made the decision to start up their own business producing and selling goat’s cheese and milk. With little knowledge of the food manufacturing industry the couple’s first port of call was to contact Mendip District Council’s environmental health team to find out more about the rules and regulations around producing food products. Council’s band of staff hard at work as Glastonbury gets ready to party
Each year, a town the size of Sunderland temporarily sets up camp in the middle of the beautiful Mendip countryside for one of the world’s most famous music festivals – Glastonbury. A huge amount of work goes into making the festival a success and, with just a few weeks until around 203,000 people descend on Worthy Farm in Pilton, Mendip District Council staff are hard at work behind the scenes, doing their bit to make sure the event passes off as safely as possible.
