Mendip’s residents asked to help shape the future of the district
Residents throughout Mendip are being given the chance to influence how their local community grows and develops through a series of public consultation events. The public consultation forms a key part of Mendip District Council’s Local Plan Part Two, which will examine in detail where development will go in Mendip’s towns and villages. It will consider individual sites for housing, employment and community facilities, while reviewing which open spaces should be protected and whether any other policies are needed, for example, around space standards for new homes or helping people wishing to build their own homes. Praise for successful Shape Mendip project
The ambitious Shape Mendip project, one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by Mendip District Council, has been praised for its success. Started in the summer of 2011, the scheme has brought a wide range of public services providers together on to one site, a ‘hub’ at the centre of the Mendip district, to improve service delivery for local residents. At the same time, by improving, refurbishing and rationalising its Cannards Grave Road offices, the council has been able to generate much needed additional income streams by renting out its office space to those partners that have joined them on site.
