Following a free training event organised by South Somerset District Council, newly trained volunteers will be able to lead walks in Wincanton, Ilminster, Yeovil, Langport, Martock and Ash. The popular Health Walk leader training day was fully booked and volunteers received information on everything they needed to know to lead a successful walk – including details on risk assessments, route planning, first aid and the benefits of exercise. Tuesday 28th January 2014 at 7 for 7.30pm. Martock C of E Primary School. Sarah Villiers author of “Somerset Education” and a most delightfully entertaining speaker, will give us a talk entitled: “Tough Teachers in Tough Times: 19th century Village Schools” She will look at the difficulties and village politics which teachers found themselves embroiled in, and look at the conditions in schools as well as teaching methods, and the problems of parents! Showing how little things have changed! Sarah can answer almost any question on education, and she will jog your memories about some of the old ways of teaching (both good and bad!). Area North awards £500 grant for refurbishment
Youngsters in Martock are enjoying the benefits of a refurbished catering trailer thanks to grants awarded by South Somerset District Council and Martock Parish Council. ArchiesXtra provides youngsters in Martock with a focus for meeting on a weekly basis. The project set-up and run by Martock Christian Fellowship (MCF), meets every Thursday evening at the Recreation Ground where hot and cold refreshments are served from the catering trailer.
