The tiny Grant’s zebra foal, which was born on February 14th after a year-long pregnancy, weighed just over 15kgs at birth. She is the second foal for proud mum Kimbia, who was also born at Longleat, and keepers are delighted with her progress so far. Full story: Read more

LONGLEAT BIDS FAREWELL TO CHINESE LANTERNS

A lion lantern is one of the items being auctioned at Longleat[1][2]A unique set of animal themed giant Chinese lanterns are set to be sold this week in a live online auction with proceeds going to The Duke of Cambridge’s African wildlife conservation charity Tusk. Longleat is to put up to 19 items for auction, all especially made by a team from China as part of the Festival of Light Event which ran over the Christmas period on the Wiltshire Estate. The Festival of Light attracted more than 150,000 visitors and saw thousands of enormous hand crafted illuminated designs, some measuring up to 20 metres in height, transform the Wiltshire estate in to a glowing wonderland. Turlough the Amur tiger enjoys a cooling dip at Longleat Safari & Adventure Park PIC Ian TurnerLongleat Safari & Adventure Park’s quartet of Amur tigers are making the most of their outdoor pool as temperatures continue to soar across the country. The Wiltshire wildlife attraction is home to four Amur tigers; male Turlough and three females Svetli, Shouri and Soundari. The Amur tiger is the largest of all the big cats and is native to the far east of Russia. “They really love playing in the water,” said Longleat’s John Cracknell. “Amur tigers are actually named after a river which flows through their native territory in Russia, and it’s easy to see why.
