On Saturday 6 June, Langport enjoyed a stimulating debate on the need for a reformed constitution for the UK. The 4th annual Bagehot Debate, a flagship event of the 2015 Langport Festival, commemorated the 800th anniversary year of Magna Carta, with two Barons and two students debating the motion ‘It’s time for a new Magna Carta’. The Debate was held in Huish Academy’s Sixth Form auditorium, and, as well as the Debate itself, the audience enjoyed a superb Magna Carta exhibition held by Curry Mallet, Somerset’s only Magna Carta village. Working together towards a sustainable health service
South Somerset Together, the district’s Local Strategic Partnership will hold a health Assembly on Friday 22nd May, 9:00 – 13:00 at Long Sutton Golf Club, in Long Sutton, near Langport. This is an opportunity to discuss and gather views on how we can promote good health for all and use health and care services effectively, also looking at how and why access and experiences may vary across the district. Experts will lead the debate to discuss how we can all work together to create a sustainable health and social care system for the long term, highlighting both the service provider and patient perspectives. Pressure Builds at Kelways Plants for RHS Chelsea 2015
Its just 8 weeks to go until the 2015 Chelsea Flower opens its doors to the world. In a sleepy corner of Somerset, Kelways Plants is humming. With over 23,000 plants being contract grown for 7 Main Avenue and Fresh Show Gardens, and many thousands of others ready for last minute additions and trade stands, the nursery is overflowing with plants.
