Following on from our first two sell out concerts, Drayton Events have this time chosen a bigger venue to reflect the growing demand and accommodate a bigger band. The Edgar Hall in Somerton is perfectly attributed for both. On Saturday 15th November Sherborne Jazz presents The Iain Houston Quartet at The Plume of Feathers, Sherborne, DT9 3LN. The quartet has some stunning tunes to play: Some especially beautiful jazz standards; tunes by Keith Jarrett; Wyne Shorter; Horace Silver; just a little open-ended original material and a special Kenny Wheeler featured section to mark this great writer and player’s recent passing in as joyful way as we know he would want. Sherborne Jazz ~ ASQ ~ Sat 9th Nov ~ Plume of Feathers, Sherborne
On Saturday 9th November, Sherborne Jazz Club will host ASQ ~ The Arabella Sprot Quintet at the Plume of Feathers, Half Moon street, Sherbone, DT9 3LN. In 2012 Arabella was awarded both an Entry Scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire and a Postgraduate Performance Award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund to study for a Masters in Jazz Performance. This gig presents the fruits of that labour, with a new line-up, new compositions, and new arrangements ranging from solo saxophone to suites inspired by literature. The quintet features Arabella on tenor saxophone, Ric Yarborough on Drums, James Banner on bass, Steve Tromans on Piano and Nick Dewhurst on trumpet. Doors open 7.30pm.
