Just in time for bright autumn days South Somerset District Council is delighted to announce the launch of the new Ham Hill Geology Trail. Created in memory of Hugh Prudden – well-known local geologist, teacher and founding Chairman of the Friends of Ham Hill – this self-guided trail has been developed for visitors to follow two short walking routes around some of the most interesting locations on the hill, exploring the unique features of Hamstone. South Somerset’s Countryside Rangers and volunteers are delighted to have again secured Green Flag Awards for Ham Hill and Yeovil Country Parks and Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve. A torchlight procession around the hill fort marked 5 November on Ham Hill, ending at the Stone Circle with a massive bonfire that lit up the night sky. 250 people took part in the free event thought up by the rangers following the popularity of the summer 2012 Jubilee beacon.
