South Somerset District Council is joining leading environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy, and hundreds of parks across the country to celebrate Love Parks Week (13 – 22 July).
This year’s celebration, now in its 12th year and supported by DS Smith, has the theme ‘It started in a park.’ Hundreds of the nation’s parks and green spaces are inviting people to remember and celebrate all that is great about our parks – learning to ride a bike, flying a kite, having our first experiences with nature or good times spent with family and friends.
South Somerset District Council is inviting residents to send in their ‘It started in a park’ photo. You can download, print and cut out the ‘It all started in a park’ image at www.southsomerset.gov.uk/LoveParksWeek.
Snap a photo celebrating all that is great about parks in South Somerset and send it to [email protected]. During Love Parks Week, we’ll display the posts across our social media channels.
Allison Ogden-Newton, Chief Executive of Keep Britain Tidy, said “Many of us have fantastic memories that started in a park – whether it’s flying a kite, teaching our children to ride a bike, or a hundred other things.
“Let’s recreate those happy times and celebrate our fabulous green spaces by enjoying some time in your local park. Great things start in a park, and who knows what else will begin this Love Parks Week.”
Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Culture at South Somerset District Council added, “We are very proud of our parks in South Somerset and we have seen an increase in people visiting sites, particularly with the marvellous weather we have had recently.
“What we really want to see and share with others is those moments of people enjoying the parks, so send us your photos and help us show what a fantastic place South Somerset is and how wonderful our parks really are.”
