The Market Towns Investment Group are celebrating the success of their Town Guide App, after achieving over 1000 downloads. The App connects nine beautiful towns in one easy to use phone application, with features including; special offers, interactive town trails and shop listings.
The South Somerset Market Towns App was released back in July 2013 as a work in progress. Since April 2014, nine dedicated volunteers in each of the market towns have been developing and promoting the App, to further enhance user experience.
Being a community led project, local information is inputted straight onto the App by the people who run the shops, offer the local services and organise special events and visitor attractions, meaning information is kept relevant and up to date.
Councillor Angie Singleton, Chair of the Market Town Investment Group said, “With 1000 downloads we know that lots of people are using the South Somerset Market Towns App to find out what all our wonderful market towns have to offer them. It’s been great helping people to develop this project and see the hard work pay off.”
Interactive town trails are now being added to the App; allowing you to explore the local towns’ (and not get lost), with satnav technology that can track your every move and pinpoint your exact location on route. The trails also include useful pop-ups informing you of the local history and heritage.
Everyone loves a bargain, and the special offers feature simply makes a list of current local deals easier to find. The App can also send a push notification to your mobile or tablet, to notify you when a new offer is added.
A full list of local restaurants, shops, accommodation and travel information can be found for all nine towns on the App, searchable in the handy A-Z section.
Information on the App, such as location details, contact numbers and social media sites, will all link up with your mobile or tablet, meaning you can call, get directions, visit a website or even email with a one touch of a button. The App also links to Twitter and Facebook meaning you can share your location, shop details or a review, with all of your friends online.
Project co-ordinator Kerri Bruce says, “Download the South Somerset Market Towns App now; not only could it benefit you, but you’ll also be supporting our local towns and traders too”.
