Milestone membership for Frome Writers’ Collective 

AFTER ONLY THREE YEARS, Frome Writers’ Collective is celebrating its 100th member, widely acclaimed blues artist and lyricist Eddie Martin. Eddie, who lives in Frome with his wife, artist Nicky Knowles who has also joined the Collective, has spent 25 years touring the world and has kept detailed journals of his visits to the 30 countries he has played in either as a solo artist or as band leader. SOMERSET WILDLIFE TRUST’S WESTHAY MOOR RESERVE NOW HOME TO THE UK’S FIRST BREEDING PAIR OF NIGHT HERON ON RECORD

There is photographic confirmation that, for the first time in recorded history, a pair of Night Herons has bred in the UK. Two adults and two recently fledged juveniles are now roosting at Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Westhay Moor National Nature Reserve, having either bred there or nearby on the Avalon Marshes site. The birds were captured on camera by Graham Hall and made their debut on Flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/cosperwosper/35832665221/. College student closes in on £5,000 charity target for children’s hospital

Seventeen year old Tom Winchester from Bridgwater is gearing up for his final charity event as he aims to hit his £5,000 fundraising target for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC). Tom’s ‘Written in the Stars’ charity concert, featuring a live band, West End performers and a drag queen, will be held on Friday 1 September, 7:30pm at Bridgwater Town Hall. It is the finale of a fundraising journey that began last year to celebrate Tom’s 10 year anniversary of recovering from a life-threatening brain tumour. Full story: Read more
