Princes Street and Park Road in Yeovil will be closed from 6pm in the evenings towards the end of November in order to carry out carriage way surfacing and create a pedestrian crossing as part of the Princes Street Enhancement Project.
From Monday 19 November through to Wednesday 21 November, carriageway surfacing works will be carried out and from Monday 26 November through to Wednesday 28 November, a pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Park Road will be installed.
The roads will be reopened in the day time as normal. While the road closures are in place, Hendford will be open to allow access to the town centre to be maintained.
Throughout the construction work, efforts have been taken to keep disruption to an absolute minimum. Atkins are the contractors who are carrying out the construction on behalf of Somerset County Council. For information on the construction, or to report any problems during construction please contact Richard Needs on 01823 355199.
The implementation of this scheme builds on the proposals set out for Phase Two of the enhancement works. The funding for these works comes from South Somerset District Council’s Area South Committee, Yeovil Vision, Yeovil Town Council and Somerset County Council.
Councillor Tony Fife, Area South Chairman and Portfolio Holder for Yeovil Vision said, “We recognise that the road closures are not ideal, but by doing them at night after 6pm we will minimise the disruption for all concerned. The completed works will positively enhance the visual impact of the area and ensure that all the businesses and visitors to Princes Street can enjoy the high standards set by the previous highly successful enhancement of the southern end of the street. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but it will be kept to an absolute minimum.”
