Mendip District Council is asking residents to help shape its budget for 2014/15 by taking part in a new consultation about what the council’s spending priorities should be.
At a time when everyone is feeling the effects of the economic downturn and government cuts to local services deepen with each passing year, it is more important than ever that every penny Mendip District Council spends offers the very best value for money for residents.
The consultation invites residents to tell the council what are the most important elements that make Mendip a good place in which to live, what requires more resources and investment, and if there are any aspects in which they think the council might do less. Taking part in the consultation will help inform decisions for spending in the 2014/2015 financial year.
Cllr Harvey Siggs, Leader of Mendip District Council, said: “As resources are tight, the council needs to think hard about its spending so that services continue to be of a high quality, and that the needs of people and businesses are properly supported. I would urge our residents to let us know what their priorities are, so we can clearly see a current picture of what people think is important.”
Stuart Brown, the Council’s Chief Executive, said: “Planning the budget becomes tougher on an annual basis. Difficult decisions have to be made, and it’s very important to have the input of residents to help guide councillors towards the right solutions for the next financial year and beyond.”
The consultation can be found on the homepage of the council’s website www.mendip.gov.uk. Anyone without internet access can fill out a paper version at the Council Access Points in Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Street and Wells.

The consultation will be open until 16th September.
