The 4th South Somerset Cider Sampling in Hinton St.George will be opened on Friday 14th September at St.George’s Village Hall by nationally-recognised author and cider expert Alan Stone who will be signing copies of his new book “In Search of Cider”. Other famous names from the world of cider making will be present including Julian Temperley of Burrow Hill Cider.
This now well-established event attracted over 200 cider enthusiasts last year to sample the range of varieties produced with loving care by a whole host of cider makers who will again be present.
In addition, there will be a selection of local food available, including that provided by the village’s own Dorothy’s Tea Room and Our Shop, accompanied by the produce of Hinton Harvest and delicious apple juice from North Perrott Fruit Farm. Popular local band Crooked Furrow will provide a rousing musical backdrop to the evening.
Introducing the event, Organiser Matthew Bryant said…
“We are absolutely delighted that Alan Stone will be opening the Cider Sampling this year. His new book “In Search of Cider” is a wonderful exploration of the world of West Country cider. Copies, signed by Alan, will be on sale during the evening.
“We are also very pleased to welcome back cider makers from Devon and Dorset, as well as old friends from Somerset, who will be offering samples of the traditional local beverage.
“The doors of the Village Hall in Merriott Road, Hinton St.George will open at 6.30pm (the official opening will be at 7.30pm).
Entry costs £3 and tickets (also available on the door) can be purchased in advance from Dorothy’s Tea Room and Our Shop in Hinton, at Dinnington Docks or by calling Matthew on 01460 73454.
