Remembrance Sunday actually falls on 11th November this year. This means we have a very full day for the Royal British Legion.
The Wincanton Legion will assemble as usual on an 11th November at the War Memorial at 10.45 a.m. where we will observe the national Two Minutes Silence, with Last Post and Reveille. Then go directly to the Old Faithful memorial at Bayford Hill and place our wreaths there.
As the Wincanton Parish Church is undergoing major renovation it is not possible to hold our Remembrance Sunday Service in the church. Consequently the church parade will assemble at CARRINGTON WAY CAR PARK at 2.15 p.m. and march off to the Memorial Hall.
The service will be conducted in the Memorial Hall for this year only at 3 pm. Wreaths will be displayed at the front of the hall and placed by branch officers in the church later. The placing of Poppy Crosses will take place after the service around the War Memorial by members of the youth groups.
There will NOT be a parade afterwards. This is an emergency measure and next year we will revert to the normal format for Remembrance Sunday.
