Cabinet last night announced that £250,000 will be released by Mendip District Council and made available for local communities.
The quarter of a million pounds is part of the New Homes Bonus grant from central government which the council has chosen to use to support legacy projects throughout the district.
Harvey Siggs, Leader of Mendip District Council said, “Even in difficult economic times the council remains committed to supporting local communities when proposing legacy projects which Mendip District Council will part fund.
“The new homes bonus grant will be split into two pots, one pot will available for grants of up to £10,000 to encourage local and community groups in smaller projects. The other will be available for larger projects which will require more consideration and thought.
Details of how to bid for the grants will be released shortly.
