Longleat has joined an international rescue programme to try and save a Critically Endangered species of wolf spider. It’s thought that only around 4,000 Desertas wolf spiders survive in the wild within a small valley on the uninhabited Desertas Grande island, part of an archipelago off the south-east coast of Madeira. Longleat is one of seven collections, including Bristol Zoo, which is working with the Portuguese government on the conservation programme. Full story: Read more
Leading Academic Returns Home To North Dorset For Guildhall History Talk
An expert in Britain’s historic guildhalls is crediting her Child Okeford childhood and local history teachers for her successful academic career. Dr Kate Giles, from the University of York, will talk about the opening up of Stratford upon Avon’s Guildhall, where Shakespeare went to school, during her Gold Hill Museum lecture on February 6th. ACEARTS AND SOMERSET WILDLIFE TRUST LAUNCH OPEN WILDLIFE ART EXHIBITION
The submissions open in January and will be judged in May by a panel which includes Wildlife Broadcaster and Patron of Somerset Wildlife Trust Simon King OBE; Stewart Geddes, President of the Royal West of England Academy; Katie Arber, Director of Fundraising and Marketing, Somerset Wildlife Trust; Nina Gronw-Lewis, Curator of ACEarts; and Frank Martin, Trustee of ACEarts.
