The police are being urged to intervene after more than
80% of drivers on a road in Yeovil, Somerset, flouted the speed limit. A speed indicator device on Lyde Road in the town recorded the motorists during an eight-day period in November. Council attempts to make £23m in savings over the next financial year. John Osman, leader of the Conservative-controlled administration, said there were “difficult times ahead” after the loss of 5% (£20m) of its funding.
