From teacher to florist, one mum decided to make the most of her maternity leave and started a new career and business following the birth of her son.
Katherine Shean, who until recently had been known as ‘Mrs Shean’ in primary classrooms across Dorset and Somerset, now runs Spring Rise Floral Design from her studio and cottage in Bourton, Dorset.
Having spent years working as a primary school teacher, Katherine developed a love of floral design when creating flower displays for her own wedding in 2013. In 2015 Katherine fell pregnant, with her now 9 month old son William and decided that this would be the perfect time to seek a career that suited her new family life.
Katherine trained at the Academy of Floral Art in Exeter, where she developed her passion for stunning floral design and Spring Rise Floral Design was established early in 2016.
Katherine said: “It was my own wedding that inspired me to follow a change of career and retrain as a florist.
“My passion is in creating beautiful and personalised floristry to suit all budgets, schemes and occasions.
“I love meeting with clients and more importantly, I always bring cake!”
It has been a successful start with weddings, events and sympathy flowers all created for various events across Dorset and Somerset and Katherine is busy making plans for her brides who have spring weddings coming up next year.
From weddings, birthdays, christenings to sympathy and get well soons, Spring Rise Floral Design can create bespoke designs to meet clients needs and budgets.
