Following on from the success of the first Shepton Mallet Sunday Market in November, a regular Sunday market is now launching in the town.
The huge success of the November market and the positive knock-on effect to shops in the High Street, has encouraged Helen Reader, Mendip District Council, the market organisers, and Shepton Town Council to make this a regular event.
The first Shepton Sunday Market of 2017 will take place on March 19th in the Market Place from 10am-3pm and will continue to run on the third Sunday of every month, including Easter Sunday, for 12 months.
A variety of stalls will be available selling everything from hot food and drink to crafts and vinyl.
Cllr Nigel Taylor, portfolio holder for Neighbourhood and Community Health Services, said; “It’s fantastic that all the hard work put in by Helen Reader and all the local volunteers, as well as the markets team at Mendip District Council and ID Verde has come to fruition.
“The Shepton Sunday Market is only a few days away and there is a lot of excitement in the town. Markets aren’t just about selling produce but about bringing the community together and having something they can be proud of. I believe this market will achieve that and I look forward to seeing it grow over the next 12 months.”
The market will be regularly reviewed and the 12 months extended if the market is successful. This market is not replacing the Friday market which will continue to run weekly alongside the free Fridayparking in Great Ostry car park.
