Chimera string trio concert at Ilminster Arts Centre on Friday 21 June. The recently formed string trio, Chimera, gave an enthusiastic audience at Ilminster Arts Centre a rare chance to hear works in a genre generally neglected by classical composers on Friday 21 June. Opening with two unfinished works by Schubert and Sibelius, moving on to a serenade by Bartόk’s rather overshadowed Hungarian contemporary, Dohnányi, Chimera closed the concert with one of Beethoven’s great early works, the first of his three Opus 9 trios. Dorset charity calls for village halls champion
Dorset Community Action is urging Dorset’s village hall volunteers to get behind a campaign to form an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on village halls. The idea has sprung from an initiative by BBC Radio 4’s PM programme to set up an APPG on a subject suggested by its listeners. Reporter Becky Milligan met with Sir Peter Bottomley MP, a champion of APPGs, to discuss potential topics. The tentative list was whittled down to two – village halls or grammar and punctuation. Now, Dorset Community Action (DCA) is calling on volunteers, hall users and community groups to lobby their MPs to support an APPG on village halls, which was suggested by the chairman of a small village hall committee.
