Two talented Yeovil College Art & Design students have been presented with grants by the Yeovil Community Arts Association (YCAA). Each year, the YCAA raises money through its annual, international writing competition, the Yeovil Literary Prize. Writers are invited to submit poems, short stories and novels for a small fee. After paying the prizes and the judges’ fees, the revenue then contributes to supporting a range of arts and artists in the area. Salvage Hunter’s eye is on the art at Bruton School for Girls
Bruton School for Girls was turned into a film set for the day when star of TV’s Salvage Hunters, Drew Pritchard, arrived to rummage amongst the hidden treasures at the girls’ school. The antiques and restoration expert had his eye on stools and easels from the art department as well as an ancient iron weather vane. Estates Bursar, Alan Wells, guided them around the school just before the end of term in July and revealed the cache of stools and easels dating back to when the school first opened in 1900. COLLEGE RAISES £1300 FOR HOSPITAL CT SCANNER APPEAL
Yeovil College staff past and present have donated three cheques to Yeovil District Hospital’s CT scanner appeal, totalling more than £1300. Over £680 came from sales of a popular charity cookbook. Called ‘Let’s Cook!’, the book features nearly 50 different recipes donated by members of staff at Yeovil College. They include delicious cakes and biscuits, yummy desserts and main courses.
