More than 140 species of birds, bees, butterflies and bugs were recorded at the recent Knoll Gardens Foundation annual Garden Wildlife Survey. The annual survey is part of an ongoing programme of research to explore the relationship between garden plants and the wildlife that lives on and around them. YHA’s ambassador and young adventurer Alex Staniforth is urging young people in the region to speak out about their mental health issues, tell someone they trust and seek help. His advice follows his completion of an epic 72-day, 5,000 mile challenge – #ClimbtheUK, which involved him climbing the highest points in all of the UK’s 100 counties, including Dunkery Beacon in Somerset and Lewesdon Hill in Dorset, to raise awareness of young people’s mental health as well as raise more than £22,000 for the mental health charity YoungMinds.
The Cattistock Countryside Show Committee have announced that they will be holding the 55th Cattistock Countryside Show on Sunday 6th August, 9am to 5pm. There are lots of new elements to the show again this year, which are hoped to appeal to the local community including vintage tractors, classic cars, skittles, traditional fete and bar games, tug of war, plant stalls, wellie wangin’, local arts & crafts, clothing trade stands and a live band.
