South Somerset District Council’s Careline service has teamed up with Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue service (DSFRS) to promote home safety this Christmas. Careline and the Fire Service have each contributed funding to enable vulnerable people across South Somerset access to the installation of free Careline-linked telecare type Smoke Detectors. A project to bring contemporary artists into eight museums in Somerset and Devon has been awarded more than £80,000 by Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Muse: Makers in Museums is led by the South West Heritage Trust in partnership with Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Somerset Art Works and the Community Museums Development Officer for Devon. Last weekend at the two-day Axe Vale Gardening and Craft Festival at Axminster Showground, Axminster, Devon, award-winning floral designer and tutor Jackie Nicholls from Ashville Design, near Chard in Somerset, won first prize for “The Best Presented Stand in the Craft Marquee 2017″.
