Curry Rivel village hall boasts a new heating system, cooker and insulation thanks to the efforts of local volunteers and a little help from South Somerset District Council.
As well as guidance and support from SSDC the project was awarded a grant of £4,500 by local councillors from the council’s community grants programme. The total cost of the project was £9,000.
Inspired by the warmer welcome to residents both young and old, the hall committee have embarked on a programme of ‘Friday Night Live – An evening with…..’. After the tremendous success of Richard Digance in November last year, their next evening is an evening with Phil Cool on 26 April.
Greg Phillips, Chairman of the hall committee said, “This is such a coup for us. People ask me ‘how did you manage to get Phil to come to Curry Rivel’ the simple answer is to just ask!”
Phil Cool is performing a two hour stand up show, which consists of current impressions, stories, and music in his own unique style that he was famous for in his three BBC series and two ITV series. Don’t miss him at The Robert Sewers Hall, Curry Rivel, 26 April. Tickets are £12 and available from Alan in the Curry Rivel Post Office or from Greg Phillips on 01458 251773.
Patrick Palmer, Area North Chairman said, “The recent project at Curry Rivel village hall has helped rejuvenate the fortunes of the hall and upgraded much needed facilities such as the heating system. If you feel your local community project could benefit from similar support contact the district council and ask for your local Area Development team.”
