Local Poppy Appeal Organiser Colin McNamee said ‘We are very grateful to Paul for his continued support over the decades in helping to raise money for the Poppy Appeal and really getting behind the activity. Also to the other businesses; the local pub The Rose & Portcullis and to Higher Hill Farm for their collective contributions. Both the village church, St Leonard’s, and the local primary school are also active and each year the school displays a 1 metre high model Cenotaph in the assembly/dining hall. It does encourage the dedicated small group of seven house to house collectors who cover a large area to raise funds and make the poppies widely available to those who wish to donate. For the first time this year we were unable to provide a collector in Butleigh Wootton and if anyone would like to volunteer for 2016 I would be very pleased to hear from them!”
