The Duchess will be received by The Right Reverend Peter Hancock, Bishop of Bath & Wells who will take the chance show her some of the public rooms and the private Chapel of this unique medieval palace.

Her Royal Highness will then meet children who are currently working with specialist children’s reading charity, Beanstalk. The Duchess of Cornwall has been Patron of Beanstalk since January 2013 and prior to that was closely involved with many efforts to ensure that children have the literacy skills needed to succeed in life.

The Duchess will then proceed to the South Lawn of the Palace Gardens, where the Wells Festival of Literature will hold a private reception in their Festival Tent to celebrate the official launch of the 2016 Festival and will feature a prize-giving ceremony for their competition winners.

Since her marriage to The Prince of Wales in 2005, The Duchess of Cornwall has become Patron or President of a number of charities and regularly attends events to support them.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have undertaken 775 engagements together in the UK alone and The Duchess of Cornwall has undertaken 832 engagements in the UK and overseas since 2005.

This will be the first time that The Bishop’s Palace has received a visit from HRH Duchess of Cornwall; the last Royal visitor to the Palace was His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex in June 2012.
