Following on from the successful 2013 and 2014 events, Wessex Wizards Triathlon Club will be hosting the 2015 Yeovil Aquathlon event at Goldenstones Leisure Centre on Sunday 1st March. This year the event will see the introduction of a new childrens race alongside the existing adults race, providing a great event opportunity for the whole family.
Located in the beautiful grounds of the 127 acre Yeovil Country Park on the southern edge of Yeovil, the race begins with the swim at Goldenstones Leisure Centre followed by a multi-terrain run around the park.
“The race has gradually grown in popularity since it was started by Total Buzz Events and is the perfect introduction to multi sport for children and adults, but most importantly it’s a fun day out, with everyone who completes the course being a winner and receiving a finisher’s medal.” Commented Steve Joel, of the organising committee. In organising in the event, the Wizards are anticipating more than 120 people taking their marks on the day.
For those new to the multisport events, a pool based aquathlon is the perfect opportunity to dip your toes into the sport. This event really is an opportunity for those who aspire to become fitter, or perhaps would like to experience a multi-sport event, or who may be planning to take part in their first sprint triathlon event this year. Distances are designed to suit all ages and all abilities.

On the day, the senior aquathlon will start first followed by the junior aquathlon, and in the competitive element to the race the head of the fields are likely to feature some of the area’s leading junior and senior swimmers, runners and triathletes. Trophies are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for both boys and girls in each TriStars, Junior and Youth category, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places overall for both men and women, along with those placed 1st in each of the 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus age groups.
Steve Joel said: “The Goldenstones Leisure Centre is the prefect venue for this swim – run event, with the race starting in the pool before transitioning onto the multi-terrain run, which takes place around the beautiful grounds of the Yeovil Country Park beside the centre.
The junior event will be a particular highlight this year. It’s introduction follows the increase in the number of triathlon clubs establishing junior sections after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. There has been a real boom because it’s such a fun and inclusive sport for kids. If you come along to an event you can see for yourself that they absolutely love the idea and switching between the disciplines and the variety of it all. The support and atmosphere is special”.
Goldenstones Leisure Centre and the fantastic new Ninesprings Café are both supporting the event, offering a free seven-day Goldenstones pass and a free monthly membership to the fastest LED member, and 25% off a hot drink and 10% off food to all entrants.
